This year, at the Museum of Industry and Railways at Jaworzyna in the region of Śląsk, visitors are invited to take a day course in firing up and shunting a 2-8-2T Tkt48-18 steam train.  The day course is ideal for a group of four, and includes two night’s accommodation at the museum.  The website for the museum is at www.muzeumtechniki.pl and some pages are available in English.

Also of interest to steam fans, the Outdoor Steam Train Museum at Chabowka has nearly 100 steam exhibits including many steam trains which drive down to Zakopane and back on certain days of the year.  The Museum’s Annual two day Carnival takes place over the last weekend in August when visitors to the museum, if they arrive on time, can ride in the old wagons to Zakopane and back.  Website:  www.skansen.hg.pl

‘Raba 500’, the guest house owned and run by Helen Piczak, is situated in Raba Wyzna, (about 5 mins from the Museum at Chabowka), Podhale - a beautiful area with so much to see and do, near the Tatra Mountains and Zakopane, and only an hour’s drive south from Krakow.

This year, ‘Raba 500’ offers a special ‘Steam Holiday’ for groups of four people, at a cost of £400.00 each.  The price includes:

  • 5 nights twin room accomodation at ‘Raba 500’ (single rooms provided if available), incl. collection from Krakow airport, breakfasts, 4 x 3 course evening meals, local transport and free evening drinks in our basement bar:  Polish vodka and beer.
  • Also included:  on the morning of the 5th day, transport by car (Zafira) to Jaworzyna, 2 nights accomodation at the Museum of Industry and Railways at Jaworzyna, a day course for four people, firing up and shunting the steam train around the turntable at the museum, with ex-driver Janus in attendance.  The museum will arrange a taxi to take guests to Wroclaw airport on the last morning of their stay in Poland.

A car and driver will be provided for any other day trips guests may wish to take from ‘Raba 500’:  local trips are free of charge e.g. the Steam train Museum at Chabowka.  Other trips are charged as per our Activity Pages on the ‘Raba 500’ website at:  www.hellbell.co.uk

Options include: Auschwitz/Birkenhau, Wieliczka Salt Mines, Thermal Baths, Zakopane and the Tatra Mountains, Niedzica and Czorstyn castles

Guests are responsible for booking and paying for flights:  They would fly into Krakow airport and return to the UK from Wroclaw, this airport being only 35 miles from the Museum of Industry and Railways at Jaworzyna. RyanAir operate to both airports and remarkably cheap flights can be found to and from both Krakow and Wroclaw airports.  www.ryanair.com
